Taking It Cheesy ... Crazy Tales of Alex & Spencer

Two weeks ago, Alex wanted to buy a Lego set for Daddy. He decided it would be for his birthday. After I explained that his birthday was a long way away, Alex fought with me and insisted it was his birthday. I knew he missed him because it had been a long week of work with Tim having to work late several days in a row. So, we ended up throwing a birthday party! Alex asked to decorate and asked for party food. We blew up balloons, hung a few streamers, made a poster, baked an apple pie, and chilled champagne. Tim was VERY surprised when he got home that Friday! It was all I could do to keep the party secret over the two days Alex planned it out. When is my party??

*This is another flash back from April.*
We decided it was time for the big box to leave the playroom. The boys had tons of fun playing inside, coloring, applying stickers, performing puppet shows, and being all kinds of crazy, but it was time for it to go. It started as a submarine, then morphed into a rocket ship, a house, and a puppet stage. In the end, we couldn’t throw it all away, so I cut out some of our favorite graffiti to frame. I hope we can find another huge box next winter!

Most kids have K’NEX and Erector Sets. Not my boys … they have PVC pipes and fittings to build huge towers. These pipes are actually Tim’s solution for Alex always begging us to build him a tent. Tim’s thought was that we could easily fit a few pipes together, throw some sheets over it, and bam … a tent. Who knew the boys would actually enjoy building with the pipes as well?

**Woo Hoo!! I just realized this is my 400th blog post!**
My boys LOVE playing with blocks of all kinds. We have the original Legos, we have Lego Duplos, we have Mega Bloks, we have foam blocks, and we have an odd assortment of random blocks as well. I have so much fun seeing them create and play for hours. I don’t even mind picking them up since Spencer loves to help throw them in the box.

It all started last week with a box from UPS. Our property manager sent us a new dishwasher rack (the old one had rusted out for a second time). While I was happily loading the dishwasher, the boys started crawling in and playing with the box. The next day at work, Tim found some HUGE boxes and brought them home for a fort. They ended up making a submarine the first night, then modifying it into a rocket the second night. Now, I think, it’s a house. Whatever it is, is has created tons of fun for the boys! They have been coloring and stickering the inside and out … it is quite the masterpiece! They’d even been really good with the crayons until Spencer drew on the tile in front of the fireplace and the pantry door while we were cooking dinner tonight! Oops!

Alex and I went to a MOMS Club play-date to make his first Thanksgiving craft:
Gobble, gobble! Hard to believe it’s already November … and that in 1 more month, Alex will be 2 years old!
I guess Alex has decided that he is really interested in art. One of the first things he’ll do when we are outside is dump out all his sidewalk chalk and draw a picture. He also loves to throw the chalk all over the place, but at least we are making progress towards one day completing an art project!

I also taped paper down to the kitchen table in front of Alex’s chair and let him color with his crayons. He was doing a particularly great job coloring when I tried to get a picture of him. In the two seconds it took me to grab my camera, he ended up tearing up all the paper. Needless to say, the new paper is taped down with packing tape!

Last week, Alex and I did a little painting at Fit For Fun, and for the first time, he seemed really interested in it. So, while he was napping that day, I started looking on various other blogs for art ideas for toddlers. I found some really neat ideas that I’m really excited to try! Well, we tried our first project yesterday afternoon. I made liquid sidewalk chalk from water, corn starch, and food coloring. I brought the paint and our “paint brushes” downstairs first, then brought Alex down. He sat right down and started dipping his fingers, Q-tips and cotton balls in the paint like he had been painting for years. The fun lasted long enough for me to take some pictures, then he started playing with the broom. Oh well, at least he went back and played with the paint a few more times! Here’s a peek at the fun!
