Soccer!

Alex is in his second year of soccer! This year is quite different and much more organized. Though we are in the same league, he’s in the next age group. This means he meets for practice once a week and has games on Saturdays. There are only 7 kids on his team, which is much nicer than the 60 or so 3-year-olds at the soccer clinic last year. While he’s made it to all of the practices, he’s only played one game. He missed the second game due to a cold, and the third game was rained out. Hopefully we’ll make it to all the other games during the rest of the season.

Alex was always very concerned about the other team scoring. He’s definitely a defensive player.

Soccer Awards

Well, this post is a month late!

Alex really enjoyed his soccer season! By the end, he was doing pretty well with the scrimmages, and even managed to get in a few kicks! Next year, I think we’ll try a different program, but we’ll definitely still do soccer! How can we not with that soccer player hair?

It was hysterical trying to get all the kids to look in the same direction for the group shot!

Alex’s 1st Soccer Scrimmage

We had so much fun at Alex’s soccer practice last Saturday … they had their first scrimmage! They split the 40 or so kids up by birthday, so the 2s and younger 3s played on one field and the older kids of the bunch played on another field. Alex’s group actually played pretty well – especially considering they’d only focused on skills so far! Alex was a little out of it from lack of sleep (we later found out he has an ear infection, which explained a lot!) and his cough medicine, but he did manage to get some kicks in there! I can’t wait for next week!

First Soccer Practice

I’m officially a soccer mom! Alex went to his first soccer practice Saturday morning. He’d been very excited for soccer to start, especially since buying his shin guards and cleats. The team provided shirt, shorts, socks, and a ball for the kids (45 3 and 4 year olds!) and is focused on teaching skills, rather than herding a bunch of kids around a field. About half way through the season, the kids will be divided up and they’ll attempt a few games. I can’t wait!

Alex was great at practice! As usual, he was a little timid at first, but after realizing how much fun he could have, he was really into it. Here are some pictures of all the fun.
