Fun in the Tub

Alex has always loved bath time. Over the past 2 weeks, he has gotten just plain silly during bath time. He figured out that he can lie down in the tub and “swim” around. A few days later, he started blowing bubbles in the water, which is much better than him sipping the water and laughing about it. It took several tries at recording his silliness, but I finally captured enough video to make a little montage. I hope you enjoy it!

I started my day with hugs, kisses, and Gamecock Football (we won!) …

…and ended it with a walk on the beach with my two handsome boys. How much luckier can I get?

Alex’s Growing Vocabulary

I don’t know if Alex was just showing off for his guests this weekend or what, but he sure did talk a lot! We’re used to a lot of jibber-jabber, but the boy ran his mouth all day! It was wonderful!! The best part is – we actually understood a lot of what he was saying. He’ll be speaking in sentences soon. Here are his new words:

~I handed him his cup, he looked at it, and said dump truck while showing me the dump truck on the cup.

~While stacking cars with Aunt Beth, he told her his police car was under his truck.

~After dropping all his cars behind the entertainment center, he said uh-oh dropped it.

~Alex has quite an arm and loved tossing the football around with us, and he said football too!

~Today, he handed me his empty cup and said all gone. He said the same thing to Grandpa Murff about the lizard that had just run off. Here’s a picture of the lizard we had been chasing:

I just love hearing all these words coming out of my sweet boy’s mouth! I’m so proud of him!

Aunt Beth & Uncle Eric Visit

We had a great Labor Day visit from Aunt Beth & Uncle Eric this past weekend. Alex definitely showed them how busy life is with a toddler! He immediately started showing off all his toys and insisted they play with him all weekend.

Our first adventure was fireworks on the beach – Carolina Beach put on the last show of the summer, and they did an amazing job. Alex sat in my lap, mouth open in awe, and only moved to pull another cracker out of his snack bag. His little heart was beating so fast, but he loved it! On Saturday, the guys went to the driving range, so Alex and I took Aunt Beth to the mall. After shopping and golf, we ate some chicken wings and watched football.

Our truly busy day was Sunday when we rode the ferry over to Southport for yummy seafood. We couldn’t decide where to eat, so we ate lunch at the Yacht Basin Provision Company, walked around, and ate an early dinner at Frying Pan. We were definitely stuffed all weekend!! Aunt Beth & Uncle Eric, thanks for visiting us! 

It’s Raining, It’s Pouring!

August has been such a rainy month here in Wilmington. Tim heard on the radio that it rained 22 days this month!! I guess we can’t really complain though – the weather has been cooler than a typical August and our grass is very green! Plus, we are lucky to have our awesome covered area for Alex to play without getting wet. Of course, half the fun of rain is playing in it. Here are a few pictures of our walk in the rain after running errands the other day. Alex was especially impressed by the water falling in the storm drain.

On the Road … Part 4

On day 4 of our visit to Spartanburg, we spent some time at the neighborhood park near Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa Workman’s house. I started by walking Alex to the “toddler” playground. He ran up the stairs, zoomed down the slide, then eyed the “big-kid” playground … and took off running. I guess he saw the big slide and just had to try it out. It’s amazing how much he loves slides now that he’s decided they aren’t too scary. At this park, he was still using his feet to scoot down the slide, but now he’s figured out how to keep his feet out of the way and goes fast!!

After getting all sweaty and running into the wife of a guy I went to high school with (we started talking because our boys looked exactly alike with their blonde curls, then made the connection), we walked the couple of blocks to the Great-Grandparents’ house for lunch. Alex did a great job of sitting at the fancy dining room table with the pretty china, and even ate some good home-cooking. But, I think his favorite part of the afternoon was discovering Beau, the cat.

There isn’t much to report about the ride home on Friday, day 5. Once again, Alex did a great job in the car. I’m so proud of how well he did all week … between riding in the car, sleeping in a new bed, and staying so busy, he did a great job! Except for missing Daddy, our trip was quite the success!

On the Road … Part 3

On day 3 of our visit to Spartanburg, we spent the afternoon with my good friend, Amanda, and her family. Her little girl, Cerys, is 4 months older than Alex, so it’s always a lot of fun getting together with her family. We started with lunch and some fun on the playground. After watching Cerys going down the slide, Alex finally attempted the slide on his own – yay!! He is now crazy about slides (as you will see in my next post). Then we spent lots of time playing at Amanda’s house. My two favorite parts of the day: Cerys saying “yucko” everytime she got close enough for Alex’s drool to rub off on her & Cerys kissing Alex.

The kids were so good, and I loved having a chance to catch up with Amanda. We pushed both kids hard – they didn’t even take their naps til we left around 5:00. Alex was asleep before we had pulled out of Amanda’s neighborhood! Too bad we live 5 hours apart!!
