Taking It Cheesy ... Crazy Tales of Alex & Spencer
Our Gamecocks are having a great season!! After walking around downtown Wilmington to see the pirate boats and the crowds at RiverFest this past weekend, we took Alex to a fun little pub to watch the first quarter of the USC vs. GA game before heading back home to bed. Alex had a great time – especially since we had a 10 or 12 person booth for just the 3 of us … and each booth had their own tv … and he got to each Mommy’s pickle!
Alex was a very good fan!
Alex and I were cleaning off the front porch today and found a little visitor under our beach bag! We’ve seen lots of lizards and toads, but not many frogs! The poor thing was frozen in fear while Alex got very close to inspect (but never touch!) him. I’m just glad he didn’t try to come inside for a longer visit!

Yesterday, our friends Miss Amy, Lydia, and Emma came over to play. Lydia is a year older than Alex, but they get along very well. Emma is almost a month old – so we were very happy to introduce her to our house. I think Alex was wondering what she was. He watched her curiously for a few minutes while she was stretching out on the floor, then quickly forgot about her.
It’s been raining this week, so we didn’t get to spend too much time outdoors, but we did manage to catch half an hour in the sandbox before the awful humidity set in. Here are two adorable pictures of Lydia and Alex cheesin’ it up!

I guess it’s inevitable that most children go through a train obsession. I remember thinking it was the BEST THING EVER for our car to be stopped at a train so we could count all the freight cars. I also remember running across the street with my younger (male) cousins at Grandma Watzin’s house every time we heard a train whistle so we could watch the train chug by. Now I wonder, what is it about a loud chain of metal being pulled down the tracks that is so exciting?
In case you haven’t already guessed, the train obsession has entered our house. Or maybe I should call it the transportation obsession. Alex loves all things that GO! Boats, airplanes, helicopters, motorcycles, cars, trains … there is always some sort of vehicle zooming across the table/window sill/entertainment center. Choo-choos and trucks seems to be the preferred methods of transportation.
Alex has been truck crazy for a while, but a friend brought him into his choo-choo obsession after letting him ride his own personal train in the middle of his kitchen!
A few weeks ago, I took Alex to the mall to ride the track-less train that meanders the inside of the mall. Alex has always been excited to watch the train, so I have been looking forward to taking him on a ride for a while. Here are a few pictures. He was so wide-eyed with wonder for the most part.

Feeding off the choo-choo frenzy, Tim and I broke out Alex’s train set he received from his Great-Grandparents Strunck last Christmas. Alex was very excited to see a new “choo-choo-choo-choo” in the middle of his living room!

Last weekend was my first weekend (and night!) away from Alex. I was celebrating my dear friend’s bachelorette party at the Isle of Palms before she ties the knot in November. So, that meant boys weekend at our house! Well, Friday was boy’s night, then Grandma Lisa joined in the fun Saturday. Tim did a great job of keeping me up-to-date with picture texts throughout the weekend, so I think I’ll do the same thing for you. A picture is worth a thousand words, anyway!

September has been a ridiculously busy month! By the end of this weekend, I will have helped throw two baby showers, attended an out-of-town bachelorette party, and played host to family 4 out of the last 5 weekends. Alex and I have attended play dates/events almost every morning, and we try to walk on the beach with Daddy after work a few times a week. That’s not even factoring in the grocery shopping and piles of laundry and dishes. I’m not complaining – we love having visitors and who doesn’t love a good baby shower and girls’ reunion/beach weekend? I’m just giving my excuse for the lack of posts lately. Don’t worry – I plan on devoting Monday’s nap time to catching up on this blog. I have some great posts in mind from the last 2 weeks. As the days get shorter, we have found that late afternoon walks on the beach are the perfect end to busy days. We don’t have to slather Alex in sunscreen since the sun is behind the first row of beach houses, Tim and I have a chance to unwind from our busy day, and we all get to enjoy the perks of living 5 minutes from the beach. There is just nothing like watching your beautiful son walk out on the beach and just take it all in – it’s like he’s already learned to appreciate nature and her beauty. He’s off running around like crazy after a minute or two, but I love those first minutes of wonder and amazement.
I was able to capture a great video of Alex playing on the cliff of sand at the water’s edge and playing in the water. He is getting braver and braver every time we go out!
